WISE SONS - CULVER CITY DELI

It seems glib to say that anything is the worst whatever it is that someone is reviewing, but Wise Sons has surpassed itself. A simple enough order: hot pastrami on lightly toasted rye with muenster cheese, cole slaw, iced coffee and a piece of cinnamon babka. I would have had an egg cream but they didn't know what that was. They also don't carry Dr. Brown's sodas - even Pink's does!

An available table needed to be cleaned so we could sit but the deli 'engineer' wasn't capable of cleaning it on one go; leaving crumbs on the table top and the chairs.

Let's break this down; the pastrami wasn't hot, the rye wasn't toasted, the muenster wasn't there. The pastrami wasn't as good as the packaged stuff from Costco and the portion was insultingly small. There is no mustard on the table and a request for mustard results in a plastic packet of Gulden's. The coleslaw was insipid and when I asked if they had any vinegar or horseradish to give it some flavor they didn't have any. The iced coffee had all the zest and bite of a glass of water and the individually-cellophane wrapped babka was dry and tasteless. The two skinny pickle slices were soft and fairly tasteless with the consistency of tofu.

I'm not a New Yorker, but I have shopped at Zabar's and I go to Katz's whenever I'm in New York. I was not expecting it be as good as Brent's or Langer's, but I was expecting it to be on par with Canter's at least - even if it wouldn't be as good as Label's Table was (just to name a few of the other places that are or aren't existent at this time).

As noted, it was the worst deli I've ever experienced.
Buyer beware.

This is what my 'hot pastrami sandwich
on toasted rye' looked like:

For perspective, this is what a hot pastrami sandwich
looks like at Brent's in the San Fernando Valley and
at Katz's on the lower east side of Manhattan:

I'm not just talking about the size of the thing.
Look at the difference in the meat!

Postnote: They have closed down - out of business.
Good riddance to bad trash!
